Despite countless sightings, Elvis officially died almost thirty years ago (August 16, 1977), but his legend shows no signs of dissipating. With each new generation around the world, his records still sell by the millions.  Tens of thousands of visitors solemnly visit his home, Graceland, every year, and many Elvis collectors spend small and large fortunes on Presley memorabilia, ranging from 45rpm vinyl records to the Elvis version of Monopoly. Elvis’ life has been documented and commercially exploited in countless films but there is still one aspect of his life that has not been dwelled upon. But not all that will change, as a deal has been made to bring one of the most publicly unknown parts of Presley’s private life to the screen: Elvis in the U.S. Army. Cinema League has just bought the film and TV rights to the book ‘Sergeant Presley: The Untold Story of Elvis' Missing Years’, co-written by Rex Mansfield, a soldier who served his military tour of duty with Elvis from 1958 to 1960. The other co writer is Rex’s wife, Elizabeth, who was once, according to the book, Presley’s girl friend. The book begins with Elvis’ Army Basic Training and follows him to Europe where they were assigned to Ray Barracks in Friedburg, Germany . Here Elvis soon met a fifteen year old girl named Priscilla Beaulieu who eventually became Mrs. Presley, and later, famous in her own right as the comedic foil to Leslie Nielsen in the ‘Naked Gun’ film franchise. The new Elvis movie will supposedly, for the first time, tell all about the affair between Elvis and Elizabeth, and how Rex stole her away from ‘The King of Rock and Roll’. There are also rumors that the book may also eventually wind up as a television series. But Cinema League has stated that it intends to first produce it as a major motion picture with a budget of up to 20 million dollars.  So far, there’s no director or star named. In all probability the producers will begin a public search, much in the same manner as Jonathan Rhys Meyers was selected for the last ‘Elvis’ bio picture.
